Vatican staff have commenced preparations for the upcoming papal conclave, installing the traditional stove in the Sistine Chapel for burning ballots and implementing measures to block electronic interference during the confidential proceedings.
A video released on Saturday offered a glimpse into the preparations for the May 7 conclave, showing workers placing a false floor over the chapel’s uneven surface, arranging plain wooden tables for the voting cardinals, and setting up a ramp to accommodate any cardinal using a wheelchair.
Meanwhile, outside the Vatican, speculation continued to swirl over which candidates are emerging as frontrunners in the race to become the next pope.
