Today, Thursday 3rd April, 2025, marks Dunukofia Mayor’s Six (6) months in office. Below represents the graphical view of his tireless achievements within the 4,032 days he has spent in the office:
1. EDUCATION
ENHANCEMENT, SUPPORT, MOTIVATION AND HEALTH SAFETY MEASURES
Aim and objectives:
To ensure that all students in Dunukofia LGA have the opportunity to complete their secondary education by providing financial assistance to students who are unable to afford examination fees, as well as distribution of materials to support teaching and learning. Enhanced learning conditions and ensured health safety in primary schools to prevent the spread of infectious diseases as well as academic excellence among primary school pupils.
ACTUAL PROJECTS IMPLEMENTED
• Registered and enrolled 850 Dunukofia indigent resident candidates for 2025 JAMB examinations.
• Organized free educational lesson classes for 2025 Dunukofia JAMB applicants.
• Best Performance Pupils Award in each class across the primary schools in Dunukofia.
THE IMPACT
These programmes have greatly impacted on the educational resources of the students, the examinations results of the students, health safety and confidence in those primary schools.
• They also helped to bolster higher education pursuits and achievements among Dunukofia students.
• Acted as a safeguard against potential dropouts and promoted educational attainment amongst our students.
• The Best Performance Student Award for the best pupils has motivated them to strive for better academic performance thereby fostering a culture of excellence among them.
2. AGRICULTURAL DEVELOPMENT AND GROWTH; IMPROVED FOOD SECURITY
Aims and Objectives
• To revive and revolutionize agriculture as a means of livelihood; food affordability in Dunukofia LGA. .
• To make agriculture through farming as a major source of food, bearing in mind that Dunukofia Local Government Area is largely agrarian and are blessed with mass acres of fertile land.
In order to achieve these objectives, Dunukofia Mayor engaged the productive youth age, and empowered them to channel their talents to farming, thereby increasing food production. He recently gave Farm inputs to these farmers in order to boost farm yields, subsidize them and reduce costs of farming. Significant efforts are being made to encourage modern farming techniques for local production and exportation of products.
ACTUAL PROJECTS IMPLEMENTED
• The Mayor organised the biggest agricultural empowerment programme where over 200 indigent farmers were empowered with financial assistance of N50,000:00 each.
• Gifted organic seeds and seedlings; organic fertilizers to each of those farmers.
• Flagged Off massive agricultural competitions in various categories including; the Top 3 Largest Cassava Farms; Top 3 Largest Yam Farms*, Top 3 Largest Poultry Farms; Top 3 Biggest Yam Tuber, Top 3 Largest Vegetable Farms (Ugbo Azu Uno), all with overwhelming cash prizes attached to each of the categories.
THE IMPACT
• Discovery of talents.
• Realization of youths on the economic gains of agriculture thereby boosting employment.
• Repositioning of agriculture as a major source of income to families and communities in Dunukofia.
3. IMPROVEMENT OF DUNUKOFIA SECURITY ARCHITECTURE
Aims and objectives
• To Strengthen the security framework of Dunukofia Local Government Area.
• To improve the security for the residents of Dunukofia LGA through collaboration with law enforcement agencies.
• Implementation of 2025 Anambra State Homeland Security Law and application of community policing initiatives.
ACTUAL PROJECTS IMPLEMENTED
• The Mayor organizes routine security engagement summits and Town Hall meetings involving Dunukofia Stakeholders, Community Security Outfits, security agencies, community leaders, government officers among others.
• Sets up the best security outfit and security network across the entire Dunukofia since the creation of the Local Government Area in 1997.
• Provided 90 pieces of Unlimited Reach Walkie-Talkie Radio for the Dunukofia security outfit for ease of communication.
– Procured Security Cameras ready for installation.
• Attracted 4 security vehicles (buses) in addition to the 6 security vehicles provided by the State Government.
THE IMPACT
• Prevention and reduction of crime rates.
• Increased community trust in security agencies where residents can have the confidence to embark on daily activities, peacefully.
4. YOUTH AND SPORTS DEVELOPMENT
Aims and Objectives
• To forster unity and engagement of youths through sports by organizing local sports competitions to showcase talents plus providing platforms for youth to engage in positive activities.
– To ensure that hundreds of youths are lifted, empowered and sustained off the streets to become self-dependents.
ACTUAL PROJECTS IMPLEMENTED
• Initiated Dunukofia Local Government Council’s Youth Empowerment Scheme where over 60 Dunukofia Indigent Youths are provided with shops, equipment and other support materials, etc, an others with equipment and financial support according to their various fields of endeavour and skills across communities in Dunukofia LGA. These to be commissioned in batches.
• Organized the biggest, most transparent and most celebrated Dunukofia Football and Volleyball Championships, involving the male and female teams across the 6 communities, including the non-indigenes, in Dunukofia LGA. The 2024 Dunukofia Championship saw Ifitedunu Community emerge as the champions in the male football event.
• Promoting community pride and encouraging youth participation in sports through rewards.
THE IMPACTS:
• Ability of our Youths to discover their latent talents in the above fields and others.
• Boosted empowerment, employment, overall income into Dunukofia and Exportation of Talents.
• Spurred unity, friendships, love, healthy interpersonal networking and relationships across the residents of the 6 communities in Dunukofia LGA.
5. INFRASTRUCTURAL DEVELOPMENT
5a. EDUCATION
Aim and objectives:
• Enhanced security and safety in our educational institutions.
• Improved the quality of education within the LGA by upgrading school facilities and constructing perimeter fences around our schools to prevent unauthorized access.
• Provided necessary educational materials and resources.
ACTUAL PROJECTS IMPLEMENTED
• Started and 85%-completed wall perimeter fencing of Abor Primary School, Umudioka.
• Started and 75%-completed the wall perimeter fencing of Obechi Primary School, Umunnachi.
• Started massive renovation of Science Laboratory Block at Walter Eze Memorial Secondary School, Ukpo, 95% completed.
• Started and completed the reconstruction of the age long abandoned block of 9 classrooms at the Udodimma Primary School, Ukwulu.
• Started the ongoing construction of 24 lockup shops in Nawgu Community, 40% completed.
• Started the ongoing construction of Dunukofia Legislative Complex
– Renovated the long abandoned Dunukofia Secretariat Bus Stand.
– Replaced all damaged roof sheets at the Traditional Rulers’ (Ndi Igwe’s) complex, at Dunukofia Secretariat, Ukpo.
THE IMPACT:
• Enhanced educational infrastructure and resources.
• Created a more conducive learning environment, potentially leading to better academic performance among the students.
• Provided a secure learning environment for students, teachers and staff.
• Decrease on the incidents of trespassing and vandalism.
• Provision of a safer educational atmosphere to enhance academic pursuits among our wards.
5b. ROAD MAINTAINANCE AND CONSTRUCTION
Aim and Objective:
• Improved transportation infrastructure for Socio-Economic Purposes within Dunukofia LGA.
ACTUAL PROJECTS IMPLEMENTED
• Started the reconstruction of Afor-Igwe Market-Umunya-Umudioka Entrance road.
• Maintenance of the road from Ukpo roundabout to Enugu-Onitsha Expressway.
THE IMPACT:
• Facilitated and improved the smooth movement of vehicles; transportation of persons and goods.
• Reduced damages on vehicles.
• Reduced the risk of vehicles reckless splashing of flood water on pedestrians around Markets as well as on the affected roads.
• Enhanced accessibility and connectivity within and inbetween neighboring communities.
• Boosts local commerce.
• Improved the quality of life of Dunukofia residents.
6. HEALTH AND ENVIRONMENT
Health Improvement, Sanitation and Environmental
Aims and Objectives
• To Promote Personal and family Healthy lifestyles.
• To maintain a clean and healthy environment within the LGA by providing avenues for health check-ups, its affordability, awareness programs.
• Implementation of waste management programmes
• Organizing community sanitation exercises.
ACTUAL PROJECTS IMPLEMENTED
• Enrolled 1000 Dunukofia indigent residents into the Anambra State Health Insurance Scheme (ASHIA).
• Organized the biggest ever Medical Outreach for the indigent residents of Dunukofia LGA, in partnership with the International Health Practitioners.
• Organising weekly Dunukofia Healthy Living Programme, now extended to various communities.
• Set up actively functional Dunukofia Waste Management Team that handles the routine clearing of wastes materials and removal of refuse dumps every two days across the entire 6 communities in Dunukofia,
• Desiliting of the drainages across the Local Government Area.
THE IMPACT:
• Improved health access, affordability, enlightenment.
• Increased community involvement in maintaining cleanliness.
• Sanitation exercise, cleaner streets and public spaces.
• Reduction in health risks that are associated to poor hygiene.
• Heightened community awareness about environmental health.
Today, it is in good records that Dunukofia LGA is about the neatest Local Government Area in Anambra State.
7. WOMEN, CHILDREN, SOCIAL/WORKERS WELFARE AND HUMAN SUPPORT
ACTUAL PROJECTS AND ACTIVITIES IMPLEMENTED
• Celebrated last August Meeting with Dunukofia women in their various communities in Dunukofia LGA.
• Organized the biggest Christmas Party for Women and Children of Dunukofia LGA.
• Hosted entire Dunukofia Mothers for Christmas Celebration.
• Provides incentives for the most punctual and diligent workers in Dunukofia Local Government Secretariat, Ukpo.
• Provided Solar-Powered Electricity for the workers in the Local Government Secretariat, Ukpo.
• Restored most of the damaged facilities in the Local Government Secretariat, Ukpo, including electricity wirings and fittings, electricity generating system, toilets, borehole Water supply and others.
In addition, Dunukofia Mayor since assumption of office pays salaries to the 33 village Chairmen, 6 ASATU Community Women Leaders, and 6 ASATU Community Youth Leaders among others, which started in January, 2025.
• Expanded his administrative office to accommodate over 50 Appointees serving in different categories and capacities.
8: COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT AND POLITICAL MOBILIZATION
Aims and Objectives
• To Strengthen political participation and support for ongoing developmental projects by working towards establishing grassroots support groups to mobilize community involvement.
• Ensure continued political stability to facilitate development initiatives.
ACTUAL PROJECTS AND ACTIVITIES IMPLEMENTED
• Has been able to unite all Stakeholders in Dunukofia, irrespective of party affiliations.
9. STRENGTHENING DUNUKOFIA COMMUNITY RELATIONS, NETWORKS AND HOMOGENEITY
Aim and Objectives:
• Build trust and cooperation between local government officials and community members by embarking on regular engagements with town unions, local organizations and various associations to understand their needs and concerns.
• Assures communities of the government’s commitment to their welfare and development. Further more is need to Foster community involvement in addressing local challenges, particularly security concerns.
He hopes to achieve the above by organizing events to strengthen community bonds and encourage collective problem-solving as well as raising awareness about security issues and solicit community inputs for possible solutions.
ACTUAL PROJECTS AND ACTIVITIES EMBARKED UPON.
– Created, established and empowered Dunukofia Indigenes Living in the Diaspora, in a bid to unite our brothers and sisters resident in different parts of the world and to carry them along in his administration.
• Identifies with every resident of Dunukofia LGA during mourning/burials, weddings, and every other ceremony cum celebrations, public functions.
• Dunukofia Mayor has also continued to receive numerous groups, associations, agencies and unions on solidarity visits to his office who came to assure unflinching support to his administration.
– He had engaged in rigorous campaigns during the electioneering period, and returned to the people on community “thank you” visit after the declaration of his victory.
– The Mayor hosted a Christmas and End-of-Year party for Ndi Dunukofia, during which he called for increased community participation in combating insecurity and crime in the Local Government Area.
From the above chronological data of Bar. Ozumba’s busy and actively productive and impactful 6 months in the office, we have every reasons to conclude that, by the turn of the one year of his administration, he would have by far passed the above records thereby placing Dunukofia on a citadel of high developmental frequency.
We, therefore, urge every well meaning indigenes and residents of Dunukofia Local Government Area to join forces with Ifezulumba Dunukofia’s administration as he strives, with his relentless, hardworking team, to deliver on his campaign promises of making Dunukofia a Prosperous And Liveable place for all of us to live in.
Bravo, Mayor Dunukofia! Keep up the good works you have started in Dunukofia. The Almighty God will always be your strength and help!
