Truck Falls Off Lagos Bridge, Crushes Two Passenger Buses

An accident in Lagos State has resulted in the crushing of two passenger mini-buses in the Agege Pen Cinema area.

The incident was reported to have occurred inward Old Abeokuta Road on Saturday morning.

The accident happened when a truck fell off the Pen Cinema flyover bridge and crushed two mini-buses, popularly known as ‘korope’, in the Agege area of Lagos.

The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) confirmed the incident at 8:37 a.m, it did not however say if there were loss of lives or injuries.

The agency said, “A truck fell off the Pen Cinema Fly-over bridge inward Old Abeokuta Road and fell on two commercial mini-bus (Korope).

“Recovery of the affected vehicles has been swiftly initiated.

“LASTMA personnel and other emergency responders are very much on ground to maintain decorum.”

In the first week of April, SaharaReporters reported that a road accident involving a 40-foot containerised truck left one person dead and five others injured along the Cele Expressway, inward Oshodi, Lagos State.

The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) confirmed that the incident, which occurred earlier on a Saturday, involved the articulated truck, five commercial buses, and two private vehicles — a Toyota Camry and a Sienna bus.

Preliminary reports from LASTMA indicated that the truck, which was carrying two large containers, suffered a catastrophic brake failure while moving at high speed.

The driver lost control, causing the containers to detach and crash onto nearby vehicles, resulting in severe damage and casualties.

A pedestrian was killed on the spot, while five others sustained varying degrees of injuries.

One of the commercial bus drivers reportedly suffered compound fractures in both his arm and leg. Emergency responders from LASAMBUS transported all injured victims to the General Hospital in Isolo for urgent medical attention.

LASTMA officers, in collaboration with the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), and concerned citizens, conducted swift rescue operations and helped restore normal traffic flow along the expressway. The Ijesha-Tedo Police Division also deployed officers to maintain order at the scene.
