Salihu Lukman, a former vice-chairman of the All
Progressives Congress (APC), says the President Bola Tinubu administration has
no feasible economic plan for the country.
He also expressed disillusionment with Tinubu’s approach to
governance.
Speaking on ‘Inside Sources’, a programme anchored by Laolu
Akande on Channels Television, Lukman described Nigeria’s political landscape
as a “rollercoaster”.
He questioned the president’s decision to remove fuel
subsidies and float the naira “without a robust economic plan” to boost
production and improve citizens’ earnings.
Lukman also said Tinubu has become unreachable.
“It’s as if he has insulated himself, even within the party.
Nobody is having access to him, and that is not the kind of progressive leader
I thought he was,” he added.
He said Tinubu’s governance style is different from the
method he deployed as Lagos governor.
“By my own estimation, that was not the way he ran Lagos. I
have come to the conclusion that I don’t think anything good is going to come
out,” he said.
“I’m optimistic that this country can be fixed in our
lifetime.”
Lukman resigned from APC in July 2024, citing a deviation
from the progressive ideals upon which the party was founded.
He said issues such as the imposition of candidates and the
marginalisation of party members have undermined the APC’s integrity and
effectiveness.
Lukman also took legal action against the party’s leadership
in a bid to enforce compliance with the rules.
